UroArt is a tissue engineering method for treating vesicoureteral reflux with chondrocytes cultivated from elastic cartilage.
Traditionally, patients with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) were treated by injection of collagen into the area of the vesicoureteral junction. The collagen resorbs with time and new surgery becomes necessary. Endoscopic implantation of our innovative cell product UroArt™ has important advantages over the established method of collagen injection. The method of autologous chondrocyte transplantation gives effects that are better and long-lasting. The method is especially important for patients with a high degree of reflux (3 - 4) that can cause kidney failure.

The application has great potential for treating children, in which population reflux is very frequent and the patients are under suppressive antibiotic therapy, often for several years.
The use of the UroArt™ cell product means that ‘in vitro’ cultured autologous chondrocyte cells can be implanted into the vesicoureteral orifice by a doctor in the hospital Outpatients.
