Project GENODISC

Intervertebral disc degeneration is one of the biggest problems of modern medicine from the socio-medical as well as the economic point of view. Mechanisms of intervertebral disc degeneration are not yet clarified. The overall aim of the GENODISC project is to improve the treatment of pathologies linked to degeneration of the intervertebral disc by developing clearer objective diagnostic criteria. Improved diagnosis will lead to better targeted treatments and faster treatment of acute conditions, helping to prevent development of chronicity.

Project Genodisc brings together 10 partners and is coordinated by prof. Jill Urban from Oxford University. The role of Educell is to analysis the various cell sources to enable the most appropriate approach to be defined for cell therapy of herniated intervertebral disc. In collaboration with the orthopaedic clinic of UMC Ljubljana we will also contribute in collecting patient data for the study of specific pathologies.
