Mirjam completed her bachelor’s degree in Biology at the University of Ljubljana in September 2004. In October 2004 she accepted the position of a young researcher in Educell d.o.o and enrolled in Ph.D. programme in Biotechnology. From 2004 to 2006 she has also performed cell culturing and quality control tests for cell based products. Her Ph.D. work investigated the osteogenic and vasculogenic potential of human adipose-derived stem cells aiming to form tissue-engineered bone constructs and had been performed in the Laboratory for Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering at Columbia University, NYC in the period from October 2006 to January 2009. She defended her Ph.D. thesis in June 2009. Since April 2009 she has been employed in Educell d.o.o as head of R&D and researcher.

Her research interests apply to the area of regenerative medicine – using cells and biomaterials for the purpose of regeneration of diseased and damaged tissues, particularly bone, cartilage, intervertebral disc and soft tissues.

In her free time she loves to dance, and besides that, her current challenge is to train properly for the NYC marathon 2010.
